• ensure that best practice and quality issues are understood and implemented

WHAT ICDL COVERS?

The ICDL syllabus is designed to cover the key concepts of computing, its practical applications and their use in the workplace and society in general. It is broken down into seven modules; a test for each must be passed before the ICDL certificate is awarded. ICDL is open to anyone regardless of age, gender, education, experience or background.

What is ICDL?

International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) covers nearly 80% of the computer skills areas people waste most time on? It is a certification that internationally recognized as the ICT competency benchmark for end-user in computer skills and is the leading certification to be widely adopted by world governments, international organizations and corporations alike.

ICDL delivered in 150 countries, translated into 40 languages and 25 million tests have been taken through 28,000 accredited test centers worldwide. ICDL is endorsed by 250 MNC like IKEA, OCBC, Citibank, 3M, Volvo, BMW, IBM, Exxon, BP etc. The ICDL holder is competent in the use of personal computer and common computer applications and knows the essential concepts of IT. In commercial world today, technology can only give businesses a competitive edge if everyone uses it effectively, therefore ICDL emphasize the application of the ICT technology into your daily business activities effectively.

MSC Management Services Sdn Bhd was appointed as the master license of ICDL at Malaysia by ECDL Foundation since April 2005. We entrusted the absolute right in managing, administering, control and implement ICDL programme in this country. Besides promoting the awareness of ICDL Certification, we also involved in recruiting the authorized ICDL Test Center (ATC), and the ATCs are currently available in several centre such as OUM, MMU, UIA, UTEM, UNIKL, MIM, Stamford, Sunway, Felda Prodata, Guidance View, Nota Asia, Twintech, Cambridge ICT, Gardent International School etc. This programme is currently engaged by several government agencies for internal certification training programme, namely Ministry of Education and Prime Minister Office. Apart from that, ICDL programme is subsidize by SMIDEC to local SMI/E Entrepreneurs with allocation of RM 1 million, project since January 2007. Noteable achievement also goes with project together with Ministry of Youth and Sport in accredit local training centers to provide ICDL to youth at nationwide level.

THE ICDL EFFECTIVENESS

There are many ways to promote ICT program. In order to formulate a best program is rely heavily on the factors of target audience, participant’s age, occupation, short or long term preference and objective to achieve by end of the learning. To this end, it becoming very challenging in determine the best-suit program in capturing the interest of the target participant, and further stimulate the sales by creating more intakes. Once the objective has been well defined, the focus on building the program will then stress on the course duration, pricing perceptional level and value of money analysis etc.

However, the abovementioned factors are not the focus of the topic we going to illustrate by this extend. Simply because people are very demanding today, their expectations are far above than what we can offer. This can obviously seen from the demand of the Microsoft Office training today, it has cut tremendously due to people today are more equipped with basic IT skills before they entering to workforce. And the other reason would be the flattening of the traditional style of ICT learning which merely focus on features, but not the application of know-how knowledge in implementing to their business operation! Therefore, the blue ocean strategy adopted by ICDL is to rejuvenate this situation by creating a new era of learning dimension that gives lots live example of ICT skills in commercial application.

In ICDL Programme, we are adding on more real life examples or practical workshop during the class to bridge over the technology in bringing the impact to their daily business process, such as:

• How to fax over 500 letters to different customers by only 1 click on the screen?
• How CEO can conduct voice presentation when he is away from office?
• How to win away customer heart by impressing them via attractive slide presentation, professional proposal format, effective graph and statistical analysis etc
• How to export your word text directly to Webpage with auto-update function

OBTAINING THE ICDL

Registration for the ICDL is through Accredited Test Centre. As the test for each module is passed, the Accredited Test Centre will record the success in a central database. The tests may be taken in any order at an individual’s own pace. They may even be taken all at once, but they must be completed within 3 years of starting the qualification.

When all tests have been successfully passed, the successful candidate will receive the ICDL Certificate. At some centers individuals may just take the tests, many also offer courses to prepare candidates for the tests.
