Greetings

I’m writing from Sydney, Australia, in response to your Braille on The Beach event.

I am a visual artist and I’m wondering if you are aware that I organised much the same event on Sydney’s Manly Beach in September 2009. I did this in collaboration with the braille-reading community and a vision-impaired sand sculptor Dennis Massoud. Our event was to celebrate the Bicentennial of the Birth of Louis Braille.

We sculpted the words “Braille rocks”. Because it does! And because the giant braille dots – one metre diameter and half a metre high – looked like rocks when they were finished and the water was lapping around them.
