Ride for Sight 2012

Ride for Sight is new charity event that St Nicholas Home organizes together with G Club Cyclist and Majlis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang. Many people think that it is impossible for blind and visually impaired people to ride a bike.
With this event we want to show everyone that blind and visually impaired people can enjoy the same things as any other person and at the same time to spread the importance of nurturing Mother Nature. This event is hope to raise up to RM100,000 to sustain our services to the blind and visually impaired people of Malaysia.

Golden Wish No 11

St. Nicholas’ Home had been praying for an automated fire alarm system for some time now. Little did we know that our prayer was about to be answered.

Truly Loving Company (TLC) and Steel Recon Industries (SRI) through the Promise Me Campaign Season 2 had made this a reality by presenting St Nicholas’ Home with a new automated fire alarm system which greatly improve our fire security and peace of mind.

All of us at St. Nicholas’ Home wishes to thank you again, Truly Loving Company and Steel Recon Industries for making our wish come true. The residents of St. Nicholas’ Home now rest easier knowing that they are well protected in case of fire.

This is what some of the people have to say about the new fire alarm system.

Michal Solomon(Maintenance Supervisor):

Before installing the new fire alarm, the Home was not properly protected. The switch for the siren was located at the guardhouse and the reception. If the office is closed and the guard is on his round, there will be no one to sound the alarm in case of emergency. Now, with this new system, when there is a fire, the alarm will be automatically triggered by the smoke detectors.

Thangaveloo(Staff):

I heard the alarm the other day after the system was installed. There was fogging carried out by the respective personnel. I felt happy and assured when I heard the alarm as it meant that the system is working perfectly.

Mr Lai(Senior Citizen):

I was not aware that we have a new fire alarm system. Nevertheless, I am happy to know that now. I also feel safer now that we have a new automated system.

Joy(Senior Citizen):

There was a fire drill last week and I heard the alarm. I am happy to know that we are protected by the new system.

Elizabeth(Senior Citizen):

I also heard the alarm, but I thought that it was from our existing fire alarm system. I know now that it was from the new fire alarm system. I am grateful for the new fire alarm.

Braille on the Beach

This event will be held on the 10th of March 2012 at a Teluk Bahang public beach.

BOTB is an innovative community celebration of Braille that involves making a Braille word (e.g. Faith) in the form of large dots in the sand. Each sand-dot will be in specified sizes. This sand-sculptured Braille word will be made in the inter-tidal zone (the area between high & low tides) along the beach. The word will take two hours to make, and then it will gradually be carried away by the incoming tide and will dissolve and unite again with the expanse of sand and ocean. Next to our main event we also have beach games, such as beach ball, sand castle building and tug of war.

To participate in the main event you need a team of 10 participants with minimum donation of RM 1,000.00 or more per team (a tax-exempted receipt will be issued). Prizes such as Challenge Trophy (this trophy will be passed to the winners annually), medals and other prizes including cash prize will be given out to the deserving teams. Meals will be provided and the teams are encouraged to be in their companies/own t-shirts. Participation in the beach games will be RM 12.00 for children 13 year and above and RM 6.00 for children 12 years and below. Our goal is to raise RM 50,000.00 and we would appreciate any support that you give for this worthwhile cause.

Chefs Cook for Charity and World Children’s Day Charity Food Fair

If you want to taste many different dishes from all over the world, why not come to the Chefs Cook for Charity and World Children’s Day Charity Food Fair at the Golden Sands Resort.

On the 30th of October (Sunday), from 9am to 4pm, St. Nicholas in collaboration with the Penang Chef Malaysia Association, Chapter 1 is organizing World Children’s Day & Chefs Cook For Charity Day. We are organizing this event to raise RM100,000 for the renovation of the dormitory of the deaf blind children of St. Nicholas Home.

This Charity Food Fair will be held at the Golden Sands Resort in Batu Ferringhi from 9am until 4pm. It is possible to purchase coupons for this event at the reception of St. Nicholas Home. For more information, please contact us at 04-2290800.

Ride For Sight 2011

As a non-profit organization, St. Nicholas’ Home is totally dependent on public, private and government funds to operate various programs for the Blind and Visually Impaired (BVI) of Malaysia. Due to economic uncertainties, donations have shrunk in size. Therefore, it is for these reasons that we are having this fund raising event to sustain our services to the BVI of Malaysia.

Co-organized by G-Club, supported by MPPP and sponsored by CIMB Foundation, St. Nicholas’ Home is excited to inaugurate Ride for Sight 2011 where one rides in and around scenic Balik Pulau and at the same time raise funds for a worthy cause.

1. Date and time:

The Bike-a-thon will be held on the 18th of September (Sunday) from 7.30a.m. To 12noon. There will be attractive prizes for lucky draw and t-shirts will be given to those who collected RM30 and above. However, you must be present on the day to claim the lucky draw prizes . A charge of RM30 will be required if one decides to register online.

2. Rules and Regulations:

2.1 We allow children below 12 to ride for free.

2.2 Ensure that the bicycle is in good condition before the event.

2.3 Participants must be present in order to receive prizes.

2.4 Other means of locomotion will not be permitted during the event.

2.5 “Ride for sight” is a bike ride, not a race. Please respect other participants.

2.6 Participants are required to wear appropriate riding attire for the event.

2.7 Participants that have physical or medical conditions (e.g. asthma) may be exempted from the ride.

2.8 There will be no closed roads; therefore it is necessary for participants to observe road rules.

2.9 Children’s bike trailers and seats attached to the rear of bicycles are not allowed during the event.

2.10 Please bring your own water bottle.

3. T-shirt collection:
