The Signing MOU with Penang Adventist Hospital 2022 – 2024

04 November 2022 – This day marked another milestone in our partnership with Penang Adventist Hospital in providing free cataract surgeries to the needy patients in Malaysia since 2018. As we all know, cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide. Our partnership will enable better pooling of resources and expertise to benefit the community in eye disease prevention and awareness.

Thus, the Home decided to donate the receiving funds of RM40,000 from L’Occitane Foundation Malaysia to continue the project by signing another Memorandum of Understanding on 4th of November 2022. The MoU was signed by our General Manager, Mdm. Carmen Chew and the CEO of Penang Adventist Hospital, Mr. Ronald Koh, which was attended by the former member of Parliament YB Wong Hon Wai, the Home’s Chairman Suffragan Bishop Dr. Stephen Soe, Senior Manager of Communications & CSR of L’Occitane Malaysia Ms. Clarance Boo, COO of Penang Adventist Hospital Dr. Thomas Tean, CFO of Penang Adventist Hospital Mr. Albin Phua, Charity Manager of Penang Adventist Hospital Ms. Jenny Ooi and the Home’s Head of Low Vision Centre Mdm. Noor Syafawati.

Starting from 1st November 2022 to 30th April 2024, 40 eligible needy patients who meet the assessment criteria will be entitled to free cataract surgery at Penang Adventist Penang which costs RM4,850 per surgery. St. Nicholas’ Home will subsidize RM1,000 per person, while the remaining RM3,850 will come from Penang Adventist Hospital’s Welfare Fund.

Big thanks to L’Occitane Foundation Malaysia and Penang Adventist Hospital’s Welfare Fund for partnering with us and fight avoidable blindness together!
