Tough Times for St. Nicholas’ Home with the Announcement of MCO 2.0

Malaysia’s Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced fresh nationwide movement restrictions starting from midnight of Wednesday 13 Jan in order to curb the soaring number of Covid-19 cases. Penang, being one of the affected States to re-enter the movement control order (MCO 2.0), banned all social gatherings and dine-ins are not allowed.

St. Nicholas’ Home is listed as one of the essential services, therefore allowing us to continue operation. However, most of our services are forced to be suspended during the two weeks MCO according to standard operating procedure. Our pastry, basketry, wellness centre, Taska and all learning centres will be temporarily closed until further notice.

We have a total of 73 blind and visually impaired residents in SNH. More than half of them will be sent home or picked up by family / relatives.

The suspension has severely affected SNH’s income especially during CNY peak season as Wellness, Basketry and Pastry are forced to cancel customers’ appointments and orders which were confirmed few weeks ago. Therefore, we truly appreciate and warmly welcome any donation in cash or donation in kind such as fruits, vegetables, meat and other necessities to reduce the financial burden of SNH.

We hope all of you are safe and sound especially during this pandemic. Stay Home, Stay Safe!
