World Sight Day 2021

7 October 2021 – St. Nicholas’ Home Penang, in collaboration with Penang General Hospital, celebrated World Sight Day on October 7th. It is an event celebrated internationally to raise awareness regarding blindness among government agencies and educate the public on how to correctly aid the blind and visually impaired people, as well as provide tips on preserving remaining vision to those who have residual vision. The theme for World Sight Day 2021 is “Love Your Eyes and Everyone Counts.” Due to the pandemic, the event is celebrated virtually on Zoom and Facebook. Other than the sharing of training and services conducted by St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang by our Social Care Officer, there was also a sharing session by our former trainee, Pn. Farihah Khalil on “Perception of Being an Adult Blind”. Dr. Jessica Mani from Penang General Hospital and Mr. Rashid Ali from PERKESO Melaka conducted the sessions on prevention of ocular trauma and glaucoma rehabilitation, respectively. St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang appreciates the efforts of all staff members who made this event a successful one. We would also like to thank our speakers, donors, and all who joined us on Facebook or Zoom. We hope everyone had a good time and learnt something from this event.
