A foreign student returned to Malaysia from the United Kingdom due to the coronavirus. She and her friends started the ‘Tutor with Thought’ programme to raise funds for St. Nicholas’ Home.
Many thanks to Yang Amat Berbahagia Mdm. Tan Lean Kee, President of Pertubuhan Wanita Mutiara Pulau Pinang paid a visit to St. Nicholas Home and made a RM3,000 cheque donation to the Home.
Despite how difficult this pandemic has been on everyone, the generosity and dedication from Lion’s Club have never wavered. Lion’s Club donated 500 pieces of face mask to support St. Nicholas’ Home.
Penang Chief Minister, YAB TUAN Chow Kon Yeow has expressed concern and paid a visit to St. Nicholas’ Home as a result of the news reported in New Straits Times (dated 20 May 2020) giving the impression that we are about to close down.
Thankfully, our Pulau Tikus ADUN YB Chris Lee Chun Kit visited St. Nicholas Home and graciously offered us a helping hand after realizing our difficulties.
During this COVID-19 pandemic, our Blind and Visually Impaired (BVI) community and Ex-Nicholites are confronted by additional obstacles, they were incapable of going out alone to buy their essential groceries. Therefore, we quickly went into action, working together with our kind and generous donors who made donations and contributions of the care package towards our Home.
37 trainees on vocational training programmes, including one from the Deaf, Blind and Multi-Handicapped programme as well as 5 children from the Early Intervention Programme (EIP) had completed their training and were awarded their Certificate of Completion and Certificate of Achievement respectively.
The staff and volunteers’ appreciation dinner was held at Royal Chulan Hotel in Georgetown on 6th of December 2019. Our Chairman Rev Charles Samuel and General Manager David Chiang presented long-services awards to staff for serving between 5 and 30 years at the home.
