Braille Reading Competition
St. Nicholas’ Home Information & Resource Centre organized the Braille Competition annually. The Braille Competition is organized in Bahasa Malaysia and English language. It is open to school children and any BVI participants interested in taking part with cash prizes to be won. We had three secondary schools, trainees and ex-trainees who participated this year.
Hellen Keller’s Day
In conjunction with Helen Keller week, an “Awareness Programme on Deaf-Blindness” was held at St. Nicholas’s Home on 28th June 2019 organized by DBMH team with different stimulation activities provided for all staff and trainees.
Visit by German Ambassador
The German ambassador Nikolaus Graf Lambsdorff and his wife visited the home on 29th of April 2019. Our German volunteer Ms. Thuy Duong and board members greeted them with warm welcome tours. Ms. Thuy Duong shared her precious volunteering memories.
Visit by Chief Minister
Chief Minister of Penang YB Chow Kon Yeow made an official visit to the home today. Our trainees greeted him with a warm welcome music performance. The Chief Minister was impressed with our Arts, Culture and Music Programme.
Sports Day
Sports Day is an annual sport event to build teamwork between the blindness and visual impairment and staff. It is held on 6th of April 2019. Sunken treasure, mermaids and sea creatures were some of the backdrops created for the theme of ‘Underwater World’ this year. More than 100 participants, staff, trainees, residents and volunteers took part in this much anticipated annual event.
A Run and Ride for Sight
A run and ride for sight were organized on the 30th of March 2019. 25 visually impaired residents enjoyed a breezy bicycle ride during the 18km “Ride for Sight” event in Penang with guidance by sighted pilots from the home to Esplanade, Karpal Singh Drive, Komtar and several other places.
